Sited in the heart of Oxford University’sscience area, the Chemistry Research Building is the largest research facility at Oxford and reflects the international reputation of the University’s Department of Chemistry, the biggest department of its kind in the western world.
The building concept is geared around the need for flexible generic laboratory space, capable of being adapted to suit changes in the ‘style of science’ in the future. Accommodation centres on the provision of 48 eight-person laboratory modules for synthetic chemistry.
A separate wing providing professorial office suites and research office space together with meeting and seminar rooms.
It is linked to the main laboratory wing by a glazed atrium that provides a social focus and ‘heart’ for the building.
The building was opened in February 2004 by HM the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.
