Faced with the combined challenge of offering a growing number of patients a wider array of healthcare services, Penn State selected RMJM to design a new student health and counselling centre for its campus in State College, Pennsylvania. The new 6,131 m² building is located between student dormitories, academic buildings, and sports facilities, enabling ease of access from any point on campus. Located in a place of prominence on campus, the facility reiterates the University’s strong commitment to student health and wellness, while creating a welcoming environment for student treatment and education.

Moreover, it proposes a new connection as well as compound traffic system to the existing underground utilities. Part of the challenge encountered was in the optimisation of the chosen area. The visual design of this project is characterised by simple and sharp forms, predominantly horizontal lines and Befra’s dark red & grey corporate colour scheme.
