The location of this project is on a highly strategic and unique plot of land within the overall Jabal Omar development site immediately opposite the Haram Mosque (i.e. the Sacred Mosque containing the Kaaba) in the holy city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The Jabal Omar development itself is a project that aims to provide visitors to the Haram Mosque much needed 1st class hospitality facilities – with requisite support facilities – to facilitate a comfortable, fulfilling and memorable visit to the Holy City of Makkah.
The client commissioned a master plan intervention on the zones Phase 5, 6 & N4. The objectives of this master plan intervention were to, increase SU Area; provide better sightlines towards the Haram Mosque; Improve the public realm experience of JODC guests; and improve the pedestrian connection between Jabal Omar and the Haram Mosque.
This project relates to the plots Zone N4, Zone N6b and Zone N6c of that masterplan. The N4 Zone location is considered the most valuable plot. This N4 Zone has a total plot area of 15,052 sqm.
The Zone N4 is to accommodate a Grand Mussala for approximately 30,000 worshippers and a landmark 7* Hotel that is simultaneously in harmony with and respectful to this sensitive holy site. The proposed area of the Zone N4 7* Hotel is to be approximately 94,000 sqm GFA (257,000 sqm BUA). The Zone N6b and N6c plots lie immediately west of the N4 plot. (N6b plot is 3523 sqm and N6c is 3600 sqm).
JODC’s objective for this project is to create a new architectural vision for the central part of the Jabal Omar site (plots N4, N6b & N6c) with emphasis on the Zone N4 facility as the Jabal Omar project landmark facility; outstanding in architectural quality, unique to the Middle East yet in complete harmony with the context of this sensitive holy site.
