Concept
In May 2008, RMJM’s London team won an international competition to design ‘Tower Ekaterinburg’ – which was intended to form the heart of a new arts, cultural and sports quarter on the banks of the River Iset in the Russian city of Ekaterinburg.
The proposed development, on behalf of the Red Group, was planned to not only provide the city with 46,000 Sqm of serviced apartments, a retail arcade and an international standard, five star hotel but also the world’s first vertical park which would run through the core of the proposed building.
The park was designed for year-round enjoyment for the general public as well as those who live and work in the building. A public sky park at the top was included in the design to offer panoramic views across the city. The arched form of the proposed 130 metre structure was designed to echo the poetic curves of the city’s Byzantine Temple of Blood.
