RMJM won the International Design competition for an affordable, high quality and environmentally-friendly housing development in Bahrain.
RMJM’s winning proposal uses the latest in modern technology to take the traditional Bahraini house into the next century. The designers developed an extremely flexible model, easily expanded to create larger living or bedroom spaces, traditional or modern living patterns and individual stylistic preferences.
There is a real sense of space, light and privacy as the design specifically avoids overlooking from adjacent properties.
The individual house units link together as either semi-detached or detached units creating tree lined streets, intimate lanes, private neighbourhood gardens, and public squares.
There is the potential to create a diverse range of place types defining the character for a series of new village neighbourhoods.
Key elements of the winning entry were incorporated into the final design with construction beginning early 2013.
