The Zuckerman Institute for Connective Environmental Research (ZICER) was officially opened by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills in 2003. The 2,800 m² facility is part of the University of East Anglia’s internationally-acclaimed School of Environmental Sciences and has been described as a “landmark institute on a global scale”.
The building has been designed to address environmental challenges through closer connections between business, policy makers, scientists and wider society.
The scheme reflects the connective nature of the institute and makes a strong statement about sustainability by exploiting the technology surrounding high thermal mass, natural ventilation, photovoltaic electricity and recycled construction materials.
