23 April is a symbolic date in world literature. It is the date on which several prominent authors, William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. Thus, it was a natural choice for UNESCO’s General Conference, in Paris in 1995, to pay a worldwide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone to access books.

World Book and Copyright Day has become a date of celebration to promote the enjoyment of books and reading around the world, recognising the scope of books – a link between the past and the future, between generations and across cultures.

We would like to share this day with you by shining a spotlight on some favourite design-focused books, reviewed below by our esteemed architects and designers.
