The architectural design, planning and contract administration of a 25,000 m² development includes a 9 storey Tier 3+ data centre, emergency power generation building, and a 132 kvA sub-station building for EDF. Situated at East India Dock, near to the Canary Wharf financial district, Telehouse West was the first data centre in London to be approved under the Mayor for London’s renewable energy and urban design requirements.

Being in a highly visible location on the DLR route to the Olympic site, the building is clad with coated aluminium panels with a graded colour palette to reduce its apparent bulk and to project the London Telehouse brand.

The power generation building contains eight diesel powered generators on several levels and has high tolerance sound attenuation measures to meet stringent noise reduction requirements.

Completed in phases in 2010 and 2011, the Telehouse West complex comprises the fourth, fifth and sixth buildings in a digital communications campus masterplanned and designed by RMJM’s YRM lab.
